To setup the Metrologic Optimus to work with RetailEdge for physical inventories, you should perform the following steps:
1. Install the Optimus by plugging the cradle into your computer's USB port and then installing the proper drivers from the installation CD that come with the device.
2. Install the Optimizer software from the CD that comes with the Optimus.
3. Run the Optimizer program. This can be done by clicking the Optimizer icon in the Program Files|Optimus Software folder in the Windows Start Menu.

4. Choose About from the Help menu.
5. If you are not running at least version 1.27.1, you should download and install the latest Optimizer Software from either: ftp://ftp.metrologic.com/pub/download/software/Optimus/OptimusInstall.exe
or by clicking on the Software Suite Link on Download Tab the at the Metrologic Site at: http://www.metrologic.com/corporate/products/mobilecomputers/sp5500/
6. Download the RetailEdge Settings program from:

7. Turn on the Optimus and choose: 2.Utilities, 1. Transfer Files, 1. Get Program, then place the device in its cradle.
8. Open the downloaded RetailEdgeSettings.opt program in the Optimizer program by choosing Open from the File menu and selecting the downloaded file.

9. Run the Optimizer Program and choose Download Program from the Tools|Communication menu option.
10. Choose to Download Via: Cradle-IR, COM Port: 3 (or check your windows settings to see which COM port the cradle has installed itself on, Baud Rate : 115200 and press the Ok button.
